September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Cancer touches everyone’s life in some way – whether you have been treated yourself, or a close family member, friend or colleague. The C-word is rampant and does not discriminate. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), Childhood cancers make up less than 1% of all cancers diagnosed each year. About 11,060 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2019. Childhood cancer rates have been rising slightly for the past few decades.

The ACS states that because of major treatment advances in recent decades, more than 80% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more. There is hope.

The American Cancer Society is fighting childhood cancer head on through the following pillars: Information, Research, Patient Services, and Advocacy.

How can we help? Donate blood with the American Red Cross, get in involved, volunteer, or even start your own fundraiser. Head on over to the ACS site for resources and inspiration to get involved.
